Frequently asked questions.
Plain answers to the questions we hear most often from boards, executives, and safety leaders considering SafeMinds.
What we do.
What does SafeMinds do?
SafeMinds builds psychosocial health and safety systems for Australian organisations. The SafeMinds, Better Work® system gives boards, executives, and safety teams the evidence they need to govern and manage psychosocial risk, powered by the SafeMinds™ Index, SafeMinds™ Interventions, and SafeMinds™ Risk Intelligence.
Who is SafeMinds for?
Australian organisations with formal psychosocial obligations under WHS, state OHS, or ISO 45003 frameworks. Most commonly: boards seeking officer due diligence evidence, executive teams operationalising the new regulations, and safety leaders building defensible maturity over time.
Who founded SafeMinds?
SafeMinds was founded by Dr Angie Montgomery, a Registered Psychologist with a Doctor of Psychology (Health). The platform reflects two decades of applied work in organisational health, behaviour change, and psychosocial risk.
How the system works.
What is the SafeMinds™ Index?
A standardised maturity score, on a 0–100 scale, built from data your organisation already collects. The Index measures psychosocial health and safety maturity across the 10 Pillar framework and benchmarks your position against sector peers. It is the evidence base for board oversight, regulatory defensibility, and continuous improvement under ISO 45003.
Is the methodology publicly available?
We share the framework structure publicly: the 10 Pillars, the maturity levels, the evidence base in Psychosocial Safety Climate theory. The detailed methodology — scoring, weighting, benchmark construction — is provided under engagement, and full methodology documentation is available to accredited partners through the SafeMinds Academy.
Do you run employee surveys?
The SafeMinds™ Index is designed to be generated from data you already collect — claims, HR, safety, and operational systems — without requiring a new survey. Surveys can support a broader risk picture and are part of our Phase 2 risk assessment work, but they are not the basis of the Index itself.
Does the SafeMinds™ Index make us compliant?
Compliance is determined by regulators based on your specific obligations and the actions your organisation has taken. The SafeMinds™ Index provides systematic evidence of hazard identification, risk prioritisation, and ongoing monitoring — the things regulators look for. It strengthens defensibility significantly, but it does not guarantee a compliance outcome. Independent legal advice should be sought for your specific regulatory context.
Working with SafeMinds.
How do engagements usually start?
With a governance briefing. A structured 30–45 minute discussion focused on board-level oversight, your compliance position, and how psychosocial safety maturity can be measured over time. We confirm context and scope before recommending the most appropriate next step.
Can professional services firms deliver SafeMinds?
Yes. The SafeMinds Academy accredits professional services and advisory firms to deliver the SafeMinds, Better Work® system under licence. Accredited partners receive full methodology documentation, delivery tooling, and ongoing support. Enquiries are welcome through the partner ecosystem channel on our contact page.
Where are you based?
